The Worst of IHOP’s onething Conference in Kansas City 2010

“Tomorrow, nearly 25,000 young adults from more than fifty nations will gather in Kansas City to seek the heart of the Lord in worship, prayer, teaching, and ministry in the power of the Holy Spirit. Our cost to host this “free” event, our tenth annual onething conference, will be close to $700,000. And while we are passionate about continuing to host this conference at no charge to the attendees, it still costs nearly $30 for each person in attendance.”

That was an email I got December, 27th 2010. The two points to make is that they had a venue that fit 25,000 people. This event costs $700,000, and they don’t charge anyone to come.

Quick, Someone call the Presence Police!

You remember the old saying, “dress to impress?” What you look like influences people’s first impression and how much favor you’re likely to have. Even if we’re told not to judge a book by its cover we still have what is known as “cognitive bias.” With that said, someone needs to call the web presence police on some of these websites. Or the other option: educate more people on what the internet is, how it works, and leave the design to the designers. In terms of web and design, my most savvy friend is launching a new site in South Korea. Simple + functional = elegant.

The Time I Went to Knoxville

My advancement document is going well, and I find myself better at explaining my research more than ever. As I think about all the stories I have to tell from this past year, I’m somewhat unsure of where to start. While I’m working to finish school, I’ll try to catch up with my stories. This one is from the beginning of this past October. It’s been almost a year, but maybe the time that’s past will help me be succinct in my telling.

In Addition to Writing My Advancement Document…

Once upon a time, I promised God that if he gave me an interesting life, I’d write about it. Man, I owe God so many blog posts. The goal this summer is to write less descriptively about each story to get more out. In addition to writing blogposts. I have to finish my advancement document for my PhD. The goal is to have 30 pages by the time my adviser get’s back. Besides getting distracted by trying to video chat with myself on my phone and laptop (see featured image.. haha), my music life has matured significantly, I’m seeing church function in the most amazing ways, and I think I want to write an autobiography. As a friend recently said, nothing is hard or burdensome when we realize who we do this for and why we do it. We get to do this, we don’t have to.
